Ramen Girl is a american movie from 2008 that was directed by Robert Allan Ackerman with Brittany Murphy as main actress. The movie tell the story of Abby who moved to Tokyo to be with her boyfriend, but a few week after her arrival he dumped her. One night from her balcony she sees a little Ramen shop on the corner of the street and later she decide to go there, but when she goes in the owner tells her in japanese that it’s close and Abby starts to cry. The man who doesn’t understand English don’t know what to do so he give her a bol of ramen and she fell in love with it! The day after she goes again and eat more ramen. On the third night when she go the owner tells her that they are out of ramen for the night, but she decide to stay and help to serve the ramen because the owner’s wife was injured at the end of the night she ask the owner to teach her the way of the ramen! At first he says no, but when she cries he said to her to be there the next day at 5 am for her first day of training. Abby’s adventure start at that moment, she confronted to a linguistic barrier and cultural choc. Her new teacher is really tough on her and even sometimes abusive, but you have to remember that for that man his ramen shop is his life! During the movie Abby surround herself with with lovable characters, Some foreigners (Charlie and Gretchen), some regular customers from the Ramen Shop and the very hot Toshi that she met one night that she was out with her friends.
That movie really surprised me, because first, I never heard of that movie with Brittany Murphy and she is a actress that I love so much! The movie was filmed in United states and in Japan. I like when movies are film on location it makes it more authentic! The movie shows us the reality of the cultural choc and it makes it more credible and I really like that about it. The thing I didn’t really like about it is that Abby was in Japan for more than a year and never really bother to learn japanese! That movie gave me a huge craving for a big bol of ramen!!
